The correlation between the Nernst effect and fluctuation diamagnetism in strongly fluctuating superconductors

We study theNernst effect influctuating superconductors by calculating the transport coefficient xy a in a phenomenologicalmodel where the relative importance of phase and amplitude fluctuations of the order parameter is tuned continuously to smoothly evolve from an effectiveXYmodel to themore conventional Ginzburg–Landau description. To connect with a concrete experimental realizationwe choose...

Evidence for two separate energy gaps in underdoped high-temperature cuprate superconductors from broadband infrared ellipsometry.

We present broadband infrared ellipsometry measurements of the c-axis conductivity of underdoped RBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-delta} (R=Y, Nd, and La) single crystals. Our data show that separate energy scales are underlying the redistributions of spectral weight due to the normal state pseudogap and the superconducting gap. Furthermore, they provide evidence that these gaps do not share the same electron...

Near doping-independent pocket area from an antinodal Fermi surface instability in underdoped high temperature superconductors.

Fermi surface models applied to the underdoped cuprates predict the small pocket area to be strongly dependent on doping whereas quantum oscillations in YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6+x) find precisely the opposite to be true--seemingly at odds with the Luttinger volume. We show that such behavior can be explained by an incommensurate antinodal Fermi surface nesting-type instability--further explaining the dop...

Fragile charge order in the nonsuperconducting ground state of the underdoped high-temperature superconductors.

The normal state in the hole underdoped copper oxide superconductors has proven to be a source of mystery for decades. The measurement of a small Fermi surface by quantum oscillations on suppression of superconductivity by high applied magnetic fields, together with complementary spectroscopic measurements in the hole underdoped copper oxide superconductors, point to a nodal electron pocket fro...
